Themes

Have you ever noticed how hotels name their convention and meeting rooms by using themes? The Rhapsody, the Aria, the Concerto, the Symphony... It's the same thing apartment complexes and housing developments do when naming their floorplans: The Dogwood, the Magnolia, the Cypress... or the Preakness, the Derby, or the Belmont. So, it got me thinking. All of the names are totally over used and rarely very creative, when in actuality, you could use ANY group of words to name them... any group of words that has some connection with eachother. For example.... you could name them all using palindromes... Civic, Xanax, Racecar, Kayak. OR you could use the collective names for groups of animals... Covey (of quail), Gaggle (of geese), Murder (of crows), Swarm (of bees), Flock (of seagulls). Why not use common medical terms? The Electroencephalograph, the Bronchodilator, the Xiphoid Process, the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. There's always my list of old-lady words that I personally refuse to say: the Slacks, the Drapes, the Sneakers, the Blouse. You could use investment terminology and never run out: the Portfolio, the Annuity, the Yield, the Dividend. Computer lingo is an obvious choice: the Random Access Memory, the Defragment, the Unix, the Bandwidth. While braggadocious, using the names of a few of the seven natural wonders would make an impression: the Mount Everest, the Great Barrier Reef, the Victoria Falls, or the Grand Canyon. Oh, I know... what about using the ranks of Scientific Classification? The Kingdom, the Phylum, the Class, the Order, the Family, the Genus, the Species.

Clearly, my list of options is not exhaustive... it only scratches the surface. These are the types of things I think about. Scary, really.
